~ Happy New Year~ 2010

The song, "Auld Lang Syne," is sung at the stroke of midnight in almost every English-speaking country in the world to bring in the new year. At least partially written by Robert Burns in the 1700's, it was first published in 1796 after Burns' death. Early variations of the song were sung prior to 1700 and inspired Burns to produce the modern rendition. An old Scottish tune, "Auld Lang Syne" literally means "old long ago," or simply, "the good old days".

Auld Lang Syne
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

And there's a hand my trusty fiere,
And gie's a hand o thine,

And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught,
For auld lang syne
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

And on a final note - my free-spirited son walked in the kitchen this afternoon with a shaved head! I gave a big hug and told him I loved him. He has been sporting a blue Mohawk for almost a year now. I asked why he shaved his head and he said It's New Years and I am going to see how long it grows in a year. Since next year is his Senior Year in high school I will be so happy to get great Senior pictures of him. That was a stipulation for him having a blue Mohawk was for him to get rid of it in time to get Senior Pictures.
Before and After photos follow:

Until Next Year (~~) Julie
